Lost in translation is about two strangers who happened to be in Tokyo, Japan at the same time. Bob’s purpose of being there is for a whiskey commercial while Charlotte tagged along with her husband who is photographer. Bob and Charlotte path met the first time in an elevator however they just ignored each other. The two character’s first conversation was in a luxury hotel bar where they got the chance to talk. Being in a country that speaks an unknown language can be stressful, both characters felt the same way. Having someone you could talk to can be so comforting and since they’re the only ones in that hotel who gives the time for each other, they became close friends. They can’t deny the connection between them. The companionship they offer to one another gives comfort and happiness, until they realized that Tokyo is becoming the place they call home.
Why We Like The Movie?
Many people who watched the show complained about the lack of happenings in the movie. They said that it has full of conversations with no action to look forward to. But for movie critics, they saw the story . We like the movie because it is complicated and has mysteries where you need to read between the lines. The movie makes you think. Does Bob find Charlotte attractive? Does Charlotte feel something for Bob despite his age? Bob and Charlotte’s character were well expressed in the movie. Bob was a serious business man who has a clear picture where his life is going while Charlotte was young and confused. She doesn’t know whether her husband loves her and whether their relationship is worth pursuing. Tokyo is a new place for her, she doesn’t find herself staying there for another week, she hates it and regret why the heck did she have to be there when her husband always leave her in the hotel. It doesn’t make any sense. Her situation in Tokyo translates her life. She doesn’t know where her life is going. She may have a husband but still lack attention and love. Bob on the other hand has a wife, too. But the number of years of being familiar exhaust him. He loves his kids and wife but found himself tired of his life. He knows it was wrong to think that way and I guess that is one of the reasons why he didn’t make a move to take advantage of Charlotte even he had all the chance. The movie has shown a great deal of sympathy, how two strangers can be friends yet not have sex, and a need to move on and do the right thing.
